Our unique Sharp Convection Carousel (R-930AK, fabricated in April 1999), was incredible. Phenomenal execution in both microwave and convection modes. We had no issues, no objections. It worked fine until April of 2017 when the convection mode halted working…18 long periods of inconvenience free execution and administration.

Expecting a similar level of value and esteem, we requested the current new form from Sharp, basically the same correct broiler (however with fresher severe keypad), now demonstrate number SMC1585BB (fabricated March 2017). The microwave worked fine, yet in convection mode, the broiler made boisterous thundering sound, very nearly a low pounding sound. It just did this in convection mode and appeared to be a free mounting of the convection flow fan. So we returned it for another substitution.

When we got the substitution (made February of 2017), three things were quickly obvious:

1)Start catch would not work (how does a non-practical begin catch move beyond QA?). It was non-useful in both microwave and convection modes. You could choose a period for the microwave, or temp and time for convection, you just couldn’t get the broiler to begin. Sort of a major issue. So you could choose how you needed your sustenance to be cooked, you just couldn’t really cook it.

2)The turntable began turning when the unit was stopped in…and would not stop except if the entryway was opened or the unit was unplugged. No cooking was conceivable, yet the turntable spun ceaselessly in any case.

3) The stove light remained on constantly. It would not kill. Truth be told, it was sufficient to warm the best outside surface of the broiler to 146 degrees Fahrenheit in one spot.

Sharp was previously a great item. Be that as it may, their day has traveled every which way. How do these deformities influence it past their Quality Assurance for the gathering? A boisterous thundering sound amid convection activity can’t be missed. A non-useful begin catch can’t be missed. It gives the idea that there is NO QA check of their items previously shipment. This is very tragic, and conceivably even unsafe. Sharp’s unique items were so great, incredible even. However, they are not anymore what they used to be. Their days are numbered, and they will more likely than not before long vanish from the business scene.

Pros Cons

4.R-1514 1-1/2-Cubic-Foot 1000-Watt

It is a pretty big and heavy unit so having someone around to help mount would be a good thing. I found that sometimes the clips in the back have a little trouble popping in all the way unless it’s lined up just right.

I didn’t like the wall mount screws a whole lot as well as the fact there is only 4 to hold on the whole bracket (they note that you should have at least 2 in studs). They have holes drilled in the mount all the way across, so what I did was located two studs, drilled some 1/16th pilot holes in the bracket where they were and sunk (5) 1 3/4″ drywall screws in each stud from top to bottom of the bracket to attach it to the wall. I didn’t want to worry about the microwave falling off and either seriously injuring someone or smashing my new ceramic top stove.

Also be careful if drilling the top cabinet mount holes with the microwave in place, the bit can easily destroy the screw hole 🙂 I ended up replacing the two small upper cabinet mount screws with 1/2″self-tapping bolts. So the cinnamon powder doesn’t quite sit level up there in the cupboard.. but the microwave is definitely not falling out of my wall!

As for functionality, the microwave is nice and powerful, the unsightly buttons are hidden behind the door (you punch in the settings when you open it). A note of caution, don’t put anything in it without the carousel tray to heat. I had a small paper nacho bowl in there and it almost started the glue on fire in 20 seconds.

Another note… The carousel tray does not ship in this box well, mine arrived broken in half. My only option was to ship the whole unit back (weighs like 80 lbs). I lucked out because my old microwave was a Sharp and the carousel tray is identical.

This was an exact replacement for a unit we used several times daily for 4 1/2 yrs. Said unit developed a problem with the keypad which prevented the start button from working. So, I ordered its identical twin.

Within 5 mins of installation and power on, the new unit started to erroneously initiate some strange sequence where it would count upward from 1 to 6 cups (sometimes with a beep) and then start over all again nonstop until I discovered a combo of keys that would temporarily reset it long enough that we could actually use it to cook.

Called into Sharp for a repair technician whom they assured us would be out to see us the following Wed. Of course, the repairman called us and knew nothing about the problem reported or that he was to be there the following week. We again explained the keypad issue and 2 days later were informed by the repairman that Sharp did not have any replacement parts and could not give him an ETA. Several more calls back to Sharp before we were able to discover that the part was in fact still alive part, but out of stock and no ETA on replacements. So we opted to have them send us a new unit and they agreed to pay for shipping both ways.

For customer service, I give Sharp 5 stars, but for manufacturing reliability, they get a generous 3 stars. This unit is heavy and awkward and not the least bit of fun to reinstall.

All of these over the range microwaves seem to be unreliable, probably because of the heat from the range. This is our second of the same model; the first lasted about 9 years. It functions well when new, has a very large turntable, and the automatic settings do a good job. The new incarnation is quieter than my old one. The mounting hardware is simple, and there are spacers which make it easy to place it precisely below the cabinet. The top screws are flimsy and the heads stick into the cabinet, though.

As other reviewers have noted, the large button to open the microwave seems to warp after time. The small electrical interlock switches in that area also fail. There is an automatic fan when the unit gets too hot, but it probably comes on too late to protect the unit; be generous using the exhaust fan.

If you are handy, the front control panel is easy to remove (remove the grill at the top, and slide the panel up and out). A replacement button is available, and I’ve also added a spring when it gets tight. Honeywell makes switches with a higher temperature rating, and these did not fail. I wish I could add some fiberglass insulation to the bottom front of the unit.

Customer review:

Have had this oven for over a month now and just love it. Sleek and beautiful says it all. A myriad of features that I am just learning to use more than I will ever need but should appeal to the experienced chef. Various preset times for different foods, defrosting, and even my cup of tea (water from one cup up to three cups)are most helpful. The hidden controls are great once you get used to them. The unit is even made in the USA if that concerns you.

You will, at first, shut the door and forget to program the cooking time, but after a few days, this comes naturally. The start/add time and stop/clear buttons as well as the fan and the light controls are outside the door-so these present no problems.

You will want to as I have already done-replace the two 20 watt bulbs on the underside of the unit (not inside but under the unit). The two stock bulbs just do not give nearly enough light. Ignore the instructions about only going up to a maximum of 30 watts each-I put in 40’s and have had no problem with overheating the glass plate that covers the bulbs. I checked with my local hardware store and they said this would be the only problem-not blowing a fuse or burning up the wiring.

All-in-all, a great unit at a reasonable price. Obviously not sure yet about the long-term performance of the unit. A few other reviews mentioned problems-as long as it took me to get it into place over my range-I hope I never have to take it down.

This review is for the 1.5 microwave/convection combo. It seems average size to me, not overly large but I’m used to a built-in and this is smaller than that! I bought this as a gift for my Mom as her new house didn’t have a built-in microwave and the idea of an extra oven for holidays appealed to her. It included 2 racks, turntable, turntable post/mount, and a small instruction book. We tried all settings immediately as we didn’t want a surprise later when it’s too late to send back.

We removed the glass turntable and plastic post/mount before trying the convection and combo settings. The convection setting did take about the same time as my oven to preheat, I did get the plastic smell but I got that with my regular oven the first time when I bought it new and consider that normal for first time use. The outside got pretty warm but I could still put my hand on it and it was not as warm as a convection toaster oven I own.

The rear by the fan also did not get as warm as the sides and top during operation. I would suggest using common sense with this device and not using metal on the microwave or combo setting and removing the turntable since it’s mount is plastic when using combo or convection. A good set of glass casserole dishes would be ideal, along with a convection oven cookbook that gives helpful conversions as well as recipes. My best advice is to get to know how it cooks, I have never had two ovens, especially convection ovens cook the same. Happy cooking!

When I got the device the box was like some dog scratched at the corner along with multiple breaks in the cardboard from handling and what doesn’t make sense is they didn’t even put the microwave in a bigger box with packing foam to prevent it from being damaged. I had already ordered one of these units before and the door was completely shattered, they don’t put any protective layers against the glass door so don’t be surprised if you get one of these and the glass is shattered on the door; however, thankfully the shipping company didn’t break this one.

The video for this unit is total LIE because when she puts the pizza in the unit is not even preheated to 400° and when she takes it out it wasn’t even done preheating, if you notice on the readout the bottom blocks on the left represent the current heat; in fact, the far blinking block on the right represents where it’s trying to heat too and the blocks never made it to 400° because the blocks were in the same place as if she just took it out in one or two minutes, so there is no way the unit would have made it to 400° because when it does all the blocks from left to right would be light up, so there was no way that pizza should have been done. They have a deception in the advertising because I had bought this on the pretense that the pizza would be cooked “In just minutes” as she said.

When I was a teenager my mom had a convection microwave before and it was practically an instant heating element which could cook food “in just minutes” and I don’t know why this would take 16 minutes to give or take to get to 400° temperature. There was nothing wrong with the previous microwave that we used Panasonic Invertech 2.2 Cu. Ft 1250W and we used a Presto 03430 Pizzazz Plus Rotating Oven for cooking stuff that would normally go into the oven which worked out great in the summertime; however, the reason I bring this up is it takes 16 minutes for preheating the microwave then another 20 minutes to cook a frozen cardboard pizza from the supermarket and takes a total of 36 minutes; whereas, my previous setup only took 20 minutes on the Pizzazz.

This unit gets so hot that my cabinets above it feel hot to the touch even being 3 inches away from the wall and cabinet above and you don’t dare put anything on top of it because who knows what will happen. I don’t know if I will be keeping this as I don’t feel safe and it’s still emitting some off gases and smells like burning plastic, I also don’t want my kids getting burned by this machine either as it gets so hot I would fear for them getting burned in the future.

Conserve energy by turning off the display when not in use. Even at rest, conventional microwaves use power to maintain essential functions. Eco Mode is more convenient than unplugging the microwave when not in use.

For someone who doesn’t like microwaves, I am definitely impressed and sold. Now I have owned microwaves before and stopped using them shortly after purchase because I didn’t like them (an Emerson that sparked, a Kenmore that made loud awkward noises, a sunbeam that heated nothing, and a sharp that burned everything) I bought the microwave for the rest of my family to use, and I finally decided to give it a few tries. The sensor cooking is spot on for reheating leftovers. The pork chop was hot and still moist, the potatoes hot all the way through, and the beans still tender and crunchy. Love the light touch and the vertical door and child lock, it’s also really quiet. The ceramic interior is a bonus for people who forget to cover saucy/oily food. The grill works great, no sparks so far, unlike my Emerson. I guess the only thing I was kind of unhappy about was that it didn’t play music like the washer/dryer, or phones lol.

let me preface this by saying that I absolutely loved this microwave at first. Unless you absolutely need a one touch and go microwave it’s really not hard to get the hang of using it. The only problem I had was that the “buttons” were a bit too sensitive. I would brush up against it and it would register button presses. Other than that, everything was all good. It heated up fast for use in convection mode, instantly if you used the combination option, it heated up food evenly and as intended in all modes. It was snap to clean.

Unfortunately, it only lasted a little over a month before, as stated in another review, it simply died. Not 3 hours after being used with no issue it simply died out of nowhere. Literally, I pressed Microwave, left it at 100 pressed OK and it just died. No funny noises, no smells no error codes nothing. It simply acted as if it had been unplugged despite the fact that earlier in the day I used the convection mode with absolutely no problem. Considering that this was a replacement for a GE Convection un it that is around 10 years old and is only being replaced because the upper grilling element went I am extremely disappointed. The GE unit is back in service and, aside from grilling, is still kicking with no problem.

To make things even better because I bought this from an internet seller (not Amazon) and it wasn’t directly from Samsung I’m getting NO HELP. I’m being told that it is considered used and is not covered by any US warranty, despite the fact that it was new, because apparently the seller is considered an “unauthorized retailer”. I didn’t even get a “We’ll send someone to assess it for a charge” or any sort of possible estimate of repair or even an idea of what might possibly be wrong. Just an “It’s used sorry no warranty coverage”.

Very much want to like this product. Used the oven twice and the food turned out more than great. I even bragged that I have never cooked food this good. Then it started to develop a mind of its own. Just pushed the microwave button, the light came on and turntable started spinning. Removed the food, closed the door and it still spinning. Unplugged it, plugged it back in, and it kept on spinning. Tried to stop the spinning but none of the buttons would work. Called the Samsung Help Line, and the guy basically said I should return it. Should have realized this might be a bad investment, as the 1-star reviews are accounted for a 1/4 of the total reviews. Will return it today and look for another…

I really and truly loved this microwave…. until I used it. It worked fine the first few times, but the buttons inconsistently worked. I didn’t buy from Amazon but want to hopefully save others from making the same mistake I did. I’ve had Samsung technicians out here 3 times already and they still can’t get it fixed. they’ve replaced the main board, the touchscreen board, the touch screen pad, reseated the ribbon cables. Every technician has different ideas about what is wrong, but as of right now, they still haven’t figured it out. And why in the world Samsung hasn’t just replaced the unit by now baffles me. It’s obviously a lemon. But no… Samsung is going to have me continue to take time off of work every few days to have technicians come out and try out there skills. Hey – I’m not bashing the technicians… they are doing their best. They are doing what they are told to do. I hold Samsung responsible for this one. Just please – replace my unit. It obviously does not work.

9.Panasonic NN-SD372S

With its sleek stainless-steel front and silver wrap, this 950-watt microwave oven by Panasonic makes a stylish and convenient addition to any contemporary kitchen. The 0.8-cubic-foot unit with its 11-1/4-inch turntable perfectly cooks and evenly heats anything from breakfast foods and after-school snacks to dinnertime meals and appetizers when entertaining. Inverter Technology

Moving Beyond Just “Heating Things Up”

Still just using your microwave oven to make popcorn or warm up yesterday’s soup? If so, we probably know why. Most microwaves just have one temperature setting–High. Conventional microwave ovens might have a low-power setting, but this is achieved by “pulsing” the high-power setting on and off rather than by emitting a steady stream of low-powered energy.

Panasonic’s trailblazing Inverter technology delivers true, variable microwave power, which means even temperatures and consistent textures throughout the food being cooked. The consistent delivery of microwave energy allows delicate foods to simmer without the edges and surfaces overcooking, so foods have the look and taste you expect–without the wait.

The Inverter microwave oven takes microwave cooking to a whole new level. You’ll experience delicious food that better retains its color, nutrients, and flavor and that’s easier and faster to prepare. Oh, and you can still make great popcorn.

Furthermore, the Inverter power unit is smaller and lighter than conventional microwave circuitry (aka the heavy, enclosed side of the microwave), which allows for more interior space to fit that favorite casserole dish, without increasing the oven’s overall exterior dimensions. Weighing just 21 pounds, the oven’s roomy interior measures 13-7/8 inches long by 12-3/8 inches wide by 8-1/8 high, while its compact exterior measures 15-9/16 inches long by 19-3/16 inches wide by 11 inches high.

Additional Features

Defrost foods even faster than with the previous Panasonic Auto Defrost. Panasonic Inverter Defrost technology is an advanced microwave sequencing system using the inverter continuous-power delivery feature.

Auto Cook

The oven’s one-touch buttons take the guesswork out of cooking by automatically adjusting power levels and calculating cooking times for various food types like pasta, frozen entrees, potatoes, vegetables, and beverages.

Auto Reheat

Reheat one to two servings of precooked room-temperature or refrigerator-temperature foods without setting power and time.

Quick Minute

The one-touch button allows you to automatically set the time in increments of one minute.

Keep Warm Feature

A pulsing delivery of very low microwave power keeps food temperatures at a constant level–without overcooking. So, foods like stew, gravy, and desserts remain warm in the oven for up to 30 minutes after cooking.

Pop-Out Dial

With a spin of the dial, the easy-to-use pop-out dial is a departure from the standard keypad found on most microwave ovens. Use it to set the time and/or weight.

Convenient time-of-day clock and count-down timer (up to 1 hour and 30 minutes).

Child-Safety Lock

For safety, the child lock prevents electronic operation (door still opens). Press Start three times to lock (“Child” will be displayed); press Stop/Reset three times to cancel.

The oven also provides an easy-to-clean interior, 10 power levels, three cooking stages, more/less control, a popcorn button, and delay start.”Inverter” Technology for even cooking and delivering delicious flavor and “Inverter Turbo Defrost” for quick defrosting. Power Consumption: 1200 Watts

I first bought this oven several years ago, this is my second time buying it but the first time buying this ‘special’ model which adds the interior light and the longer warmer times – both of which are excellent additions and things I’d wished it had the first time around. If you are considering buying one model over the other, absolutely get this one. You’d be surprised how helpful that interior light and longer slow cook/warm time is.

If you’re experienced with the brand then you know it’s exceptionally well built and designed as are all their products. It feels very solid, is well designed, and looks very nice. I’ll also add the warning that Elite Cuisine appliances seem to have a life of a couple of years before they go bust – as did my first oven. It died around the 2-year mark. I was gutted, since I used it so much, but decided not to replace it at the time since it was a bit pricey and considered it a luxury. A year later, I decided I couldn’t continue to go without it, and bought it again (this model).

I may now sound like a crazy person having bought an oven that I know from experience won’t last long but this oven really is good enough to justify it in my opinion. Especially for someone like me that rents and has no control over my normal range. I have a perfectly nice, standard, range. And like all perfectly nice standard ranges, the oven stinks. It doesn’t heat evenly, doesn’t heat the right temperature and makes cooking in the oven a real chore.

The first thing to understand is that this is in no way a ‘toaster oven’. This isn’t some cheap oven you use to make toast (though of course, you can use it for that). This is a full-on complete replacement for your normal oven – the only limitation being its size. Unless you have a very expensive, very high-end oven, chances are it looks a lot better than your normal oven. It’s optionally convection of course, which is great, but even without that it just heats better than anything else. It’s quick to heat, heats evenly, and most importantly heats correctly – to the correct temperatures. Even if you aren’t an expert baker you’d be amazed just how important heating to the right temperature is. It is exact. That really is the number one selling point.

I won’t bother reviewing the options or features – they all work exactly as described. The important thing to know is that it heats evenly and exactly, all the features work perfectly and unless you can afford a very high-end oven it’s likely to cook better than your existing appliance.

Having used one for a few years now a bit of advice to keep it looking nice… wipe down the oven window after every use. It will cloud up and be impossible to clean later if you don’t keep it tidy. The gunk will build up if you don’t keep it clean. Also, pull out the drip tray and wipe it down, even if you don’t think anything has spilled. It takes a few seconds to wipe down the window and pull out the drip tray and clean it, and you’ll be glad you did later so it continues to look new. If you plan on cooking things directly on the racks which will then likely leave debris on the drip pan, consider covering the drip pan in foil.. makes for easy cleanup. You can wrap it in foil nicely and still slide it into the slot – and from looking at it you’d never see it.

Bottom line, this is a really nice looking appliance that also happens to cook exceptionally well no matter if you’re making toast or a roast chicken or a loaf of bread. Before you balk at the price keep in mind it’s an ‘oven’ not a ‘toaster oven’.

Pros Cons

How to select the best oven according to your personal need? What all things to keep in mind in order to select a good microwave oven?

Size and capacity

Size and capacity are one of the important factors to be considered while looking for a microwave oven. The capacity of a microwave is measured in liters, which means  the volume of space available inside. It is very important that you buy the microwave of right size based on the amount of food you will be cooking, if you use large microwaves for a small quantity of food then there will not be efficient heating and also unnecessary power consumption.

Don’t just look at the size of the microwave but also evaluate the usable space inside it. As in, those with two shelves are very practical for an efficient use of space. Those without this feature end up with only the top layer of food heated, leaving you with a dish that is half warm and partly cold. This metal rack will raise your food and evenly distribute the heat.

Wattage/Power Rating

Wattage gives us an idea about the power consumed by a microwave, higher the wattage of the device more is the power consumed. However, most of the ovens do come with intelligent heating systems to reduce the power consumption. Microwaves have wattage ranging from 600-1500 watts depending on their capacity and heating ability, so do check the rating to ensure that it is suitable for the type of food you will be cooking. Higher wattage ensures fast cooking but it will bump your electricity bill.

Price range for microwave ovens can vary significantly depending on the brand, size, and type of microwave. The best approach is to have a maximum prize in your mind and then base your research on that price. You can then start looking for them online browse through hundreds of options or you can easily choose one from the products we have listed below. We have made sure to cover products ranging from 5000-20000 so that it is suitable for everyone.

You can make a list of features you are looking for and prioritize on the most important ones according to your needs. For example, you may be willing to go for one which isn’t great by design but has some very good features. Here your priority is the number of features and not design.

Samsung, LG, Toshiba, IFB are some of the best convection microwave oven brands in India. IFB and Toshiba offer a three-year warranty on their heating elements and body, except these, others only offer a one year warranty. Also, do take into consideration the after sales support provided by these companies.

Additional Features

Certain microwaves come with features that can ensure that a meal cooked to perfection. This is possible because of the pre-programmed menu options available in most of the models which allow us to prepare our favorite dish just with a click of a button. Humidity sensors can help in defrosting frozen food properly, look for the defrost button and then enjoy hot food within minutes. The auto cook menu allows you to choose the recipe based on which the heating time and cooking duration are automatically set.

Then, you could also look into the design aspect of the microwave, which is nowadays, much more sleeker and smaller in design with colors ranging from black to a wide range of colors. The past designs were bulky consuming a lot of space which is now replaced with simple and compact design style.

If you have children in the house, pay attention to child safety lock feature. This electric system avoids any misuse of the microwave, therefore, keeping both the child and the device safe. If your microwave has touch control panel, then it needs to be handled carefully as they are sensitive. It is better to buy a microwave having a mechanical panel or a combination of both.

Another feature for ease of use is a microwave turntable and the advantage of this feature is that you would not have to turn the dish, the table rotates automatically ensuring uniform cooking.
